My Silent Nightmare by LuxDani My Silent Nightmare by LuxDani
Ssssseriously where do I get these titles from

For those who have been watching me for a few years, you'll know that I used to do a lot of digital, but has since drifted away from it. Traditional is my thing, always will be. I've been doing those animated icons a lot lately, and wanted to see if I could do a larger painting still.

So this is the result. Couple of hours.

As you can see, I couldn't finish it. Guess digital isn't for me, still.

I still like the result though, it was fun to try. Its been YEARS since I've done a real dragon painting.

Let me know what you think! Feedback is especially appreciated, because I've been away from digital for so long.

I did wonder why the highlights were just circles, then I read your description. But if you ever have the fancy, digital could benefit from you

Great piece! I like how it looks bit like it'd be done on skartchboard. And wonderful work with values

Honestly, If you hadn't said anything about it being unfinished, I would have needed to take a long look at it before I suspected anything!

If anything could improve on it a bit I would have suggested a bit of blending on the right side of the composition; if the contrast between the background and the right horn was a little less stark, you could have easily convinced me that it was a finished piece! I like the way it almost melts out of the shadows.

Totally a great piece! Don't let anyone tell you you've lost your knack for digital art!

Ah my god I hate having to come up with titles, too. Man...

I think that this pic looks incredible, especially considering the length of time between this and your last digital pic. The subtle color variation, the mix of deep shadows and soft light, and all the little details. It's very beautifully done! My favorite bit would have to be the further-away horn, and how it's blurred: that really gives the portrait a sense of depth. Also haha, I agree about the comment of it looking like a minotaur at first glance. A bullish dragon... nice!

For critique, I would have made the horn detailing more "solid", so to say. The details there are soft and energetic and so the horns look furry; if that was unintentional then more careful strokes should've been used, and if it was intentional then it looks out of place. Fuzzy horns don't look good on a scaly monster. ;)

Awesome work overall though, I think you did excellent on this piece. It must be fun to be able to grasp traditional and digital art so well, haha. Do you have a link to the texture you used, too? I'd love to get my hands on it!
