The Upside of Things .V2 by LuxDani The Upside of Things .V2 by LuxDani
DOWNLOAD TO SEE DETAILS

I redid this deviation for a contest being held by =AlameaLio where we had to redo an old piece in the same medium. I did this one: [link]
I wanted to do something traditional, but when I was looking through my gallery to see which to redo, I really felt good about redoing this piece. I love the meaning behind it and I'm not pleased anymore with how the old one turned out.

Aimed for a more realistic look. What do you guys think? Like the older one? Or the new one? Things I can improve on?

I tried out a new fur technique anyhow, and I think it works pretty damn good. I still could have added more fur details here but I didn't want to overdo it.

This was done with photoshop a couple years ago. When I was still sort of in practice. :)

Well i think i like the way the color stood out on the older drawing. this one the fur looks more realistic. i like both but the older one i think i semi favor over this one in certian ways.

You're right about both things.
And although I think this newer version may look more appealing, I still prefer the old one as well. I think because it shows emotion more.

Woah, such improvement! :wow: This one is much more realistic x3 I like the kinda golden glow to the fur, makes it much more alive feeling :3 Ooo and are those tears I see? A watery eye? :o

Cha, a little tear. T'was the main idea for this concept. I was feeling shitty at the time but I kept in mind that things would eventually get better. c:
Thanksss =D

o.o Wow, there's some improvement. I absolutely love the soft look of the fur and the eyes are amazing. Never thought I'd love rainbow-eyes, but these:heart:

Hmmm, fur and water(=tears) are your greatest improvements I think. Great job, still love the idea of this.

Looks awesome, You definitely improved, especially with the fur. Love the rainbow eye idea too. My only gripe is that the coloured fur around the eye doesn't seem as realistic and smooth as the rest of the fur. Maybe draw in some individual hairs...

Btw I just have to salute you because fur is a difficult thing to do, and you're right on the money. Some people *cough*me*cough* wouldn't even attempt it. :salute:

The rest of the fur fell into place nicely except for those stupid coloured markings. I fought with those so much so finally I just went GAAH ENOUGH. Trust me, they look better now than they did before. Mind you I guess that shows on the little walkthrough I did for it. I probably should go back and add some more hairs...I hate that now whenever you update the image of a deviation, it sticks it back in people's message centers. Even when its the tiniest adjustment that no one will care about. There should be an option for that part.

Meh. It's so big deal. The image still looks great despite that.

Really? I didn't know it did that. That seems kind of annoying :S

Goodness Ko!
This is amazing! D:

I have no idea how you manage to make eyes and such so detailed and pretty, and the fur is amazing too. c':
It's a very well done re-do, seeing as I thought the older one was great too! Haha.
But, yes, I do like this one more. The realistic quality of this one really jumps out.

I also love the little markings around the eyes too. Sopretty.

And I'm sorry for not commenting on your art lately. :c

Thanks Nyliir <3<3<3

Now that I compare my newer, more realistic version to the older version, I see how...uh, comic-styled the other one is? Comic, cartoon, opposite-of-realism, you get what I mean. ;)
It's cool to see how much one has improved over the course of a year.

One doesn't realize how much they really have progressed unless they try something like this. Even I think that I've improved immensely.

I really like this, it was a successful re-do if you ask me X3 It does look really realistic and I like the shading better on this one. The older one, though I like it too, seemed more cartoonish and this one has much more depth. Makes you want to sink into those eyes.

And sorry I missed your birthday :( Hope you had a great one :)

Thanks a ton <3
I figured it would be a good thing to try and make that concept more realistic. I wish I would have made the eyes looking up a tad more with the updated version, but it'll be pretty hard without redoing every. I screwed up the layers with the eyes.

Aw thankyou! I had a pretty good day <3
